9ct gold ring with large checkerboard amethyst

This ring is hand made and from 9ct white gold with a large 11 x 9mm double checkerboard amethyst. The ring has a white gold band and a yellow setting to house the very unusual stone. The amethyst itself is a cut called checkerboard with harlequin facets across the top. This stone is very different as it has the checkerboard cut on both sides. The ring is size N but can be made in any size.

This ring is part of my 52 Ring Project, a personal challenge born out of a long-overdue discovery. Late last year, I finally unpacked two boxes of gemstones that had been sitting in a tangled, chaotic mess since we moved to Dorset nearly three years ago. Some of these gems have been with me for over fifteen years — tiny treasures, forgotten but too beautiful to be left hidden.

After an evening of blissful organization (gem nerd heaven!), I sorted each stone by type, size, and colour. But instead of letting them gather dust again, I set myself a challenge: to create 52 rings, one for each week of the year, each featuring a different gemstone from my collection.
